19th may -run through

19th may-Run Through with band.

Act 1 and 2- Vocal progression.

The rehearsal began with a vocal warm up. The scaled vocal warm up allowed us to be able to confidently reach the notes in the overture to the Addams Family and ‘When your an Addams. We attempted the overture when the ancestors sing in a vibrato way. We sang this with Alex our Musical Director before we staged it. The problem we had was we couldn’t get the balance right. At first we had too many singers singing the top line. The balance is vital for the overture as it needs to be vocally strong.

From the start of the rehearsal we tried to progress through the show and take notes of what problems occurred throughout the show.

Starting the rehearsal we began laying on the floor and obviously tried to attempt the overture of the show. Personally I found it really useful singing the overture more than once as I could sample different positions so I knew I could sing confidentially when I am on the floor. I thought it might be a good idea to pre-record the AH’s so we could powerfully sing it with more effect. However with this, it could face many problems such as timing issues, balance and also actual effect. for instance if the band is not as loud as the recorded singing it will sound wrong.

 First act notes

  • When your an Addams worked well with the band and the volume balanced out well and the power from the ancestors was incredible and what struck me the most was the intensity on the vibrato from the cast at the end of the song “you do what addams do or….DIE” This was really powerful however still needs work on the balance of the soprano and tenors to the lower alto and bass singers. A section that was a bit out of time was the “Rigor Mortis “because we were used to the backing track of our MD playing it we presumed it would be the same however it was slightly out of time. However this should not matter as we wait a beat before we start to move.
  • Pulled balanced well with Emily’s voice. Emily has explored this song and put her own twist on it to make it her own for instance she has made it more gruff in some places such by the end when she sings ‘ I’m being PULLED’ she really emphasizes this well. Due to us not having a Pugsley due to an actor being ill, she has done well over the past few weeks to try and react with Pugsley. she is meant to be distant from whats happening giving the song two meanings however she has forgot another actor is on stage.
  • Trapped needs working on vocally and physically as people who were meant to be singing the lower line are singing the higher line which sounds bad. Also the timings are wrong such as Mikes ‘Like a corpse in the ground’ the acting needs exaggerating on this.
  • One normal night was faster than expected however our movement was strong but we need to be clearer on our acting back to Fester and exaggerate a lot more. At the start with Emily she is really improving belting out the high notes by using her head voice. to fully achieve this she needs to work on techniques and being confident and dropping her jaw. however Emily’s singing is phenomenal in this scene. James needs to watch the way he says poem in American. The way it is coming across is like ‘Pomee’ when the ‘e’ should still be slightly noticeable.
  • Full disclosure worked well with the cast but the movement needs clearing up and strengthening.I also believe the singing could be a little more stronger and clearer.
    •   The Wednesday and Lucas scene worked well. The ancestors need to react and react quicker than what they are doing.
    • Death is just around the corner. This is starting to look really good however needs neatening up at the end of the song with the reprise.
    • Tango Amor is easier with the other instruments as we have more to work with in the sense of we have cues to start and pause so we can mark it out better. Personally I need to control the dance rather than Charlotte leading me. I need to strengthen my posture.
    • Finale we all nee to use a gesture and pose more and understand what we are doing.

to improve as a cast we need to be a little more confident within ourselves and exaggerate voice and movement a little bit more.
